In the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, WEED-IT is conducting extensive field tests together with Smart Sensing Brasil to evaluate the latest features of the WEED-IT system.
Representing WEED-IT are Hendrik Braam and Alwin Meenderink, who are testing the technology under local conditions alongside Rodrigo Trevisan, Technical Director of Smart Sensing Brasil.
The main innovation being tested is row recognition, a smart function that enables the sprayer to automatically identify crop rows in the field. This allows the system to spray only on the rows or only between them, depending on the application.
When combined with spot spraying, the technology can also detect and treat weeds growing between the rows. This results in more precise spraying, reduced use of crop protection products and a more sustainable way of farming.
The new row recognition feature is expected to be available from January 2026.
The field tests are part of a broader collaboration between WEED-IT and Smart Sensing Brasil. By combining hands-on field experience with advanced sensor technology, WEED-IT continues to develop solutions that can be applied worldwide, regardless of crop type, climate or farm size.
Through practical testing, valuable data is collected that helps fine-tune the technology to meet the daily needs of modern farmers.
The tests in Mato Grosso align with WEED-IT’s participation in the seventh edition of APSUL América in Não-Me-Toque, southern Brazil.
During this international agricultural event, cooperation between Brazil and the Netherlands took center stage within the Smart Soybean Project. The initiative brings together researchers, technology companies and agricultural experts to make soybean production more efficient and sustainable.
Researchers from Wageningen University & Research (WUR) and representatives of the Netherlands Business Support Office (NBSO) Porto Alegre shared insights on how precision agriculture can improve yields while reducing environmental impact.
WEED-IT demonstrated how its precision spraying technology helps farmers spray only where needed, minimizing waste and reducing their environmental footprint.
The field tests in Brazil mark another step forward in the ongoing development of WEED-IT technology.
By continuously innovating and working closely with partners and users around the world, WEED-IT is committed to improving efficiency and sustainability in modern farming.
With the introduction of row recognition, farmers gain even greater control over their spraying strategy, resulting in cleaner fields, lower costs and a more sustainable future for agriculture.
